Anne writes to us, “what are those bright flashes in the sky that my boyfriend and I are seeing. It’s 8:07 p.m. and we live on 75th and 6th Ave. The flashes seem to be coming from the northeast. We saw one or two a few minutes ago around 8:00.”
I would have posted this sooner, but I’ve been watching the presidential debate on the TiVo….
Update: One possible scenario – lightning. KING has a lightning tracker which seems to be somewhat buggy tonight, but there is at least one recorded strike shortly before 8 p.m.:
There is also a recently expired National Weather Service alert that read in part:
NOW…A PUGET SOUND CONVERGENCE ZONE IS BRINGING RAIN SHOWERS AND EMBEDDED THUNDER AND LIGHTNING TO SOUTHWESTERN SNOHOMISH COUNTY. THE RISK FOR THE OCCASIONAL THUNDERSTORM FROM ADMIRALTY INLET EAST TOWARD THE SOUTH-CENTRAL SNOHOMISH COUNTY WILL CONTINUE UNTIL 11 PM.
