Greenwood home burns early this morning

by | Nov 2, 2009

Update 11 a.m.: Dana Vander Houwen of SFD says this was not an arson, as many people feared. “Fire investigators determined that this was an accidental fire caused by inproperly discarded smoking materials,” she said. “Damage was estimated at $320,000.”

The Seattle Fire Department reports that a two-story house at 700 N. 103rd St. in Greenwood burned down this morning. SFD Public Information Officer Helen Fitzpatrick says the call came in at 3:13 a.m., with smoke and flames coming from the door and windows. Everyone inside made it out safely, without any injuries.
Firefighters had the fire knocked down by 3:30 a.m., but a neighbor who lives two doors down told me they were still working on hot spots several hours after that.
Thanks to everyone who emailed us tips this morning!
