How can yoga be adapted so that more bodiesโand more people with disabilitiesโcan participate? Adaptive Yoga Northwest is bringing its Adaptive Yoga Teacher Training to the Phinney Center this October, combining online instruction with a full weekend of hands-on, in-person training.
The 30-hour program is designed for yoga instructors, healthcare providers, and caregivers interested in expanding their skills and making yoga more accessible in their communities. No need to be a yoga teacher to participateโthe training is open to professionals and caregivers from a variety of backgrounds.
Participants will explore the fundamental principles of adaptive yoga along with anatomy and physiology of people with disabilities, adjustments and transfers, and ways to adapt standing, seated, and inverted postures. The program also includes class observation, practice teaching, and hands-on work with adaptive students.
The training begins with five online evening sessions from 6โ9pm on October 5, 12, 16, 19, and 23, followed by an in-person weekend at the Phinney Center Blue Building on Saturday and Sunday, October 24โ25, from 10:30amโ5pm
The cost is $550, with payment plans and scholarships available. The training is led by Adaptive Yoga Northwest instructors Nicole Hamilton, Julie Fournier, and Beth Reite, and 30 hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education credits are available.
Adaptive Yoga Northwest isn’t just visiting for the trainingโthey’re already part of the PNA community, offering an ongoing Wednesday afternoon adaptive yoga class at the Phinney Center Campus for people with disabilities. We’ll share more about that program soon!
