The Phinney Neighborhood Association’s annual Día de los Muertos celebration returns to the Phinney Center campus on Saturday, November 7th from 2–5pm, bringing an afternoon of music, dance, food, art, and remembrance to the neighborhood. Saturday’s festivities will include pan de muerto, tamales from Frelard Tamales, free arts and crafts, face painting, and art and handcrafted goods for sale from local artisans.
At the heart of the celebration is the Community Ofrenda, where neighbors are invited to honor and remember loved ones who have passed by bringing photos and offerings to add to the altar. The ofrenda will be on display in the Phinney Center Blue Building lobby from October 28th through November 9th, so there’s plenty of time to contribute even if you can’t attend the celebration.
There will be plenty to see and hear throughout the afternoon! Performances will include the Ingraham High School Mariachi Band, Grupo Folklorico, Jump On Languages, and CeAtl Tonalli Aztec dancers. The celebration will conclude with a procession around the block, weather permitting.
Día de los Muertos is an opportunity to remember those we’ve lost while celebrating the lives, stories, and traditions that keep their memories with us. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration!
