Help scare away hunger! PhinneyWood food drive runs through October

by | Oct 16, 2026

Halloween is just around the corner, and while PhinneyWood is getting ready for costumes and candy, neighborhood businesses and community members are coming together to help scare away hunger!

The Phinney Neighborhood Association’s annual Hunger Goblin’ Food Drive is underway throughout October, collecting healthy, non-perishable food to support two important community resources: FamilyWorks Food Banks and Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church’s Community Food Pantry. FamilyWorks has long been a beneficiary of Hunger Goblin’, and this year the PNA is excited to expand the effort to include Phinney Ridge Lutheran’s food pantry, which provides groceries to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

With colder weather approaching and household budgets stretched, it’s a great time to lend a hand. And participating couldn’t be easier!

How to Help

Throughout October, participating neighborhood businesses and organizations have collection bins ready for donations. Pick up a few extra non-perishable items on your next grocery trip, or check your pantry for unopened, unexpired food you’d like to share.

Donation locations include:

  • Ballard Preschool Co-op and Phinney Neighborhood Preschool Co-op โ€“ 6532 Phinney Ave N
  • Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery โ€“ 8570 Greenwood Ave N
  • Glitterland – 8011 Greenwood Ave N
  • Greenwood Library โ€“ 8016 Greenwood Ave N
  • Greenwood Senior Center โ€“ 525 N 85th St
  • Half Moon Bouldering โ€“ 124 N 85th St
  • Illumination Learning Studios โ€“ 7720 Greenwood Ave N
  • Ken’s Market โ€“ 7231 Greenwood Ave N
  • Kiddie Academy โ€“ 8701 Greenwood Ave N
  • Kym’s Kiddy Corner โ€“ 6701 Greenwood Ave N
  • Phinney Center Blue Building โ€“ 6532 Phinney Ave N
  • PNA Whittier Kids โ€“ 1320 NW 75th St

The neighborhood has a history of showing up for this effort. In 2022 alone, Hunger Goblin’ collected more than 1,500 pounds of food for neighbors in need. Let’s see what we can accomplish together this year!

Don’t Forget the Trick-or-Treating!

The food drive culminates with the neighborhood’s beloved Hunger Goblin’ Trick-or-Treat on Saturday, October 31, from noonโ€“3pm. Participating businesses along Greenwood Avenue between N 67th and N 87th Streets will welcome costumed kids and families for an afternoon of Halloween fun.

A few extra groceries can make a real difference for our neighbors. Thanks for helping PhinneyWood scare away hunger!
