Last month, we shared the news that new owners Katy and Bryce would be opening the doors of the former Oliver’s Twist for one final garage sale before beginning the transformation of the longtime neighborhood gathering place into The Silver & Gold.
PhinneyWood showed up in a big way.
The sale raised $3,000 for Northwest Harvest, with 100% of the proceeds going to support the organization’s work addressing food insecurity across Washington. But for Katy and Bryce, the day turned out to be about much more than clearing out the space and raising money.

Former customers stopped by throughout the day to take home pieces of the old bar and share stories about the role Oliver’s Twist had played in their lives. Some remembered first dates, others engagements and anniversaries, and plenty remembered favorite cocktails—and, apparently, that famous truffle popcorn.
Perhaps the most fitting moment came when Oliver’s Twist’s original owners, Dan Braun and Sarah Hughes-Giles, joined several members of the original bar staff in returning to the space. The gathering gave them a chance to spend time together behind those familiar doors one last time before the next chapter begins.
For Katy and Bryce, who are themselves PhinneyWood neighbors, the experience only reinforced what they already knew: they aren’t simply taking over a commercial space. They’re inheriting a place that holds a lot of memories for a lot of people.
They came away from the day more excited than ever about opening The Silver & Gold, and with an even stronger sense of responsibility to create another vibrant, welcoming place where neighbors can gather and, hopefully, make plenty of new memories of their own.
