PhinneyWood has always been defined by its small businesses. They are part of what makes this neighborhood feel like a neighborhood, and when the pandemic put so many of them at risk, Phinney Ridge resident Chad Frerichs wanted to help.
Drawing on more than two decades of experience building brands and leading creative and marketing work, Frerichs began sitting down with local business owners, often for free, to help them navigate an extraordinarily difficult time. Sometimes that meant talking through marketing decisions. Sometimes it meant helping them make better use of the budget they had. And sometimes it was simply helping figure out what to do next.
That work became Favorite Day Media.
What began six years ago as a way to support the neighborhood has since grown into a thriving PhinneyWood business of its own. Favorite Day Media continues to work with local businesses, but increasingly, businesses with bigger ambitions have begun reaching out.
Now, Favorite Day Media is taking its next step, partnering with businesses that are ready to become something bigger.
“Favorite Day started because we wanted to support businesses in our neighborhood. Six years later, more and more businesses are coming to us because they’re ready to grow, and we’re ready to take that next step with them. That’s exciting,” Frerichs says.
Favorite Day Media’s approach is built around an idea: businesses scale through story. The agency invests deeply in each business it works with, getting to know what makes it special, why people connect with it, and what it has the potential to become.
And it’s an approach the team has seen work. Favorite Day brings experience taking businesses beyond where they started, helping local brands become citywide names and others reach national and global audiences.
For Favorite Day, that’s the opportunity now: working closely with businesses that have something worth building on and are ready to see how far they can take it.
But as Favorite Day Media grows beyond PhinneyWood, Frerichs has no intention of growing away from it.
He remains a Phinney Ridge resident, and Favorite Day will continue working with neighborhood businesses. Frerichs also plans to continue sitting down with local business owners who want marketing guidance, coaching, or simply another perspective on a challenge they’re facing.
“This neighborhood is so important to me. I want to be available to help any owners that need it and attract other small business owners to our corner of Seattle,” Frerichs says. “Just existing as a small business owner in this city has become a herculean task, and support from the community can help ease some of that burden.”
Six years after Favorite Day began as a way to help local businesses through an uncertain time, the business is growing alongside the neighborhood it was created to support. Its reach may be getting bigger, but PhinneyWood remains home.
