Fall may still be a few weeks away, but one of PhinneyWood’s sweetest seasonal traditions is almost here.
On Saturday, August 15, from 2-4:30pm St. John United Lutheran Church is inviting neighbors of all ages to its annual Cider Pressing Party—a hands-on community event where people power transforms fresh apples into delicious cider!
Volunteers help wash and chop apples, feed them into the grinder, turn the press, and, of course, enjoy a taste of the fresh juice. No experience is necessary—just wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little sticky and come ready to hop in. Families are especially encouraged to attend, and kids often enjoy seeing how apples become cider from start to finish. It’s a sweet event to pair with the day’s Art Walk
Apples are sourced from the trees that grow on the church property, combined with contributions from neighbors’ harvests. If you’ve got an early season apple tree, this is a great opportunity to share your fruit! Bring apples if you have them but don’t let it stop you if you don’t. All they ask is that you bring an empty juice container to take some cider home with you.
The Cider Pressing Party is part of St. John United’s CoCreate Project, which is a new way they are stewarding and sharing their property. Through CoCreate, they are partnering with the community to cultivate a more inclusive and collaborative commons – a third place where you can gather, create, and recharge.
