If you’ve been thinking about signing up for this year’s Gumshoe 5K but haven’t gotten around to it yet, organizers say there’s still plenty of time to join the fun.
The annual neighborhood scavenger hunt is now underway, with participants navigating a 5-kilometer route through Phinney Ridge, Greenwood, and the Green Lake area while solving 30 clues along the way.
To participate, register at DoTheGumshoe.org and pick up an entry form at Greenwood Hardware, located at 7201 Greenwood Ave. N. Organizers will also be outside the store on Saturday from 9–11 a.m. for those who prefer to register in person.
Once registered, participants can begin their adventure at PCC Green Lake Village, 7504 Aurora Ave. N. The event is self-paced, and participants have until 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 to complete the course and turn in their forms.
Adding to the challenge this year, the Gumshoe’s “Answer Man” has hidden collectible Gumshoe coffee mugs along the route. Additional mugs will be placed on August 17 and August 20, with clues posted on the Gumshoe 5K Facebook page. Participants who find a mug get to keep it, though organizers ask that participants limit themselves to one mug per entry form.
Now in its latest edition, the Gumshoe 5K remains one of PhinneyWood’s most unique traditions, combining puzzles, neighborhood exploration, and a little friendly competition.
Whether you’re just hearing about the event or already working your way through the clues, organizers say there’s still time to make this your Gumshoe year.
