Some neighborhood traditions just get better with age. This summer, the PhinneyWood Art Walk celebrates its 30th year — three decades of turning Phinney Ridge and Greenwood into a walkable gallery.
Mark your calendars: Friday, August 14 (6–9pm) and Saturday, August 15 (12–5pm).
For one weekend, dozens of local businesses — cafes, pubs, shops, and studios along Greenwood and Phinney Ave — host local artists working in everything from painting and photography to ceramics, fiber art, and jeweler. Wander at your own pace, meet the makers, and discover work made right here in the neighborhood. It’s free, family-friendly, and happens rain or shine (though we’ve put in a good word for sunshine).
What’s notable for our 30th year
- A poster three decades in the making. Designer Robynne Raye has created the Art Walk poster on a volunteer basis for 30 years, and this year’s design shines like all the rest. Watch for these beautiful posters around the neighborhood, and stop by the Phinney Center to purchase your own (while supplies last).
- Two live murals Watch brand-new neighborhood murals come to life over the weekend at two locations: the Phinney Center (PNPC is painting the lower parking lot blacktop) and Puget Hound (7619 Greenwood Ave N). Stop by both to see the artists at work — there’s something special about watching a blank wall become a landmark in real time.
- Open Studios. Participating artists are throwing open their studio doors. If you’ve ever wondered where the magic happens — the tools, the works-in-progress, the beautiful mess of it all — this is your chance to peek behind the scenes.
The PhinneyWood Art Walk is presented by the Phinney Neighborhood Association. Interested in participating as a venue or artist in future years? Get in touch at [email protected].
