Makeda & Mingus is hosting a thoughtful and creative community gathering on February 7 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm called โValentines for the Departed.โ This free event invites neighbors to come together, enjoy homemade treats, and participate in a gentle crafting activity that honors loved ones who have passed. Guests will be encouraged to write or decorate a love note to someone they miss, reminding us that even though people are gone, the love we carry for them remains.
Alongside the crafting, Makeda & Mingus will be offering chocolate mousse and warm cinnamon rolls, creating a cozy atmosphere for reflection, connection, and shared experience. The supplies for the activity are being provided by Grand Finale Death Doula Services, whose work focuses on helping individuals and families navigate grief, memory, and end-of-life care.
The event will take place inside Makeda & Mingus at 153 N. 78th Street, giving participants the space to slow down, create, and hold close the memories that matter most. Anyone who wishes to honor someone they have lost is welcome to attend, and all ages are invited to participate in this gentle act of remembrance and love. Valentines for the Departed is free to attend, and all supplies are included.
