PhinneyWood, our sweet and savory ship has come in! Grillbird, a well-regarded Teriyaki and more restaurant in West Seattle, has opened their second location in the heart of PhinneyWood in the former Johnson & Johnson Antiques building at 6820 Greenwood Ave N. Yesterday and today are the “soft opening” days, with the official opening on Wednesday.
While there are other tasty options on the menu – Poke Bowl, Chicken Katsu Sando, Fried Cauliflower, and Gyoza to name a few – their focus is on “Seattle-style Teriyaki”: Seattle-style teriyaki takes a subtle departure from this traditional Japanese approach. This variation incorporates fresh ginger and garlic into the teriyaki sauce, which serves as a marinade for meat, allowing it to soak overnight. The marinated meat is then expertly grilled over gas or charcoal, culminating in a final drizzle of teriyaki sauce.
The restaurant also boasts a wide array of gluten-free choices, including their signature teriyaki sauce and all dressings, and is very clear on their menu what choices are safe for that particular diet.
There is also a sister restaurant inside the building: Salad Party. Salad Party’s menu includes salads like the house party, chicken salad, chez moi, chop chop, le frenchie, golden hour, dear Caesar and steak date. Per their website, Salad Party is a premium, seasonal salad shop making food that’s joyful, comforting and unexpectedly craveable, Salad Party opens Wednesday.
