The Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is proud to offer a wide range of programs and services—like the Greenwood Senior Center, the Hot Meal Program, and the Tool Library—made possible by the support of our incredible Household and Business Members.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting PNA Business Member Rub-a-Dub Dog Wash for a canine spa day with Annie, the adorable doodle companion of my colleague Chris Maykut, PNA’s Small Business Advocate.
We were warmly welcomed by owner Carrie Schenken and manager Lindsey Costello as we stepped into the shop. Carrie opened Rub-a-Dub in 1997, making it the very first self-serve dog wash facility in Seattle!
Lindsey guided us through the process in our own grooming cubby, complete with a bath and drying station. As I got to know Lindsey, it became clear why Rub-a-Dub is such a special place. A lifelong animal lover and former “horse kid,” Lindsey is now a seasoned dog foster mom, owner, behaviorist, and grooming expert. Her knowledge and gentle demeanor put both pets and people at ease.
Lindsey patiently showed me the best way to care for Annie’s curly coat, recommended the right products for her fur type, and demonstrated how to use various grooming tools. I learned that doodles need extra care to keep their curls healthy—Lindsey walked me through proper brushing and blow-drying techniques. The results? Annie left fluffy, clean, and absolutely glowing with confidence.
How lucky we are to have such expertise right in our neighborhood, helping us care more deeply and confidently for our four-legged friends. Thank you, Rub-a-Dub!
Stories like Rub-a-Dub’s remind us that our members are the heart of what makes this community thrive. Whether through small businesses, volunteers, or neighbors lending a hand, PNA Members help create the vibrant, caring neighborhood we all love.
