After 15 years in Greenwood, owners Paola Corsini & Chris Cossack announced in late February that they would be retiring, and The Olive and Grape at 8516 Greenwood Avenue closed in late April. Per Seattle Eater:
“A staple of the neighborhood located at 8516 Greenwood Ave N, this restaurant (previously Olive You) offering Turkish, Italian & Greek cuisine opened in September 2010. Paula is from an Italian Levantine family; 3rd generation born & raised in Izmir, Turkey. Her distinct culture is represented in the scratch-made menu at #TheOliveandGrape, with most recipes passed down within her family, including “Mama’s Baklava” – which blends Greek and Turkish traditions – and “Nonna’s Tiramisu.”
The Olive and Grape had a well-loved twice daily happy hour (all day on Tuesday), live music nights with Flamenco guitar, Greek Taverna nights, and music fundraisers. Macklemore even stopped by in 2013 and had their Gnocchi Pesto.
“We couldn’t have been on this journey without you. Thank you for all the laughter and cherished moments we have shared. We will certainly miss seeing you, and we are incredibly grateful for your continued support.”
A new owner will be taking over the space, though the next restaurant likely will serve a different type of cuisine.
Coindexter’s, the pinball parlor, arcade, and bar at 8556 Greenwood Avenue, closed just last week, the owners announced on Instagram. They had been looking for buyers, but were unable to secure a sale:
“Hey, folks. I’m sure you’ve heard rumors about us being for sale or closing our doors. The rumors are true. Unfortunately, our high rent which ultimately led us to the decision of moving on was also a deal breaker for any potential buyers so our last day open will be May 3rd. Thank you for all your support and we look forward to seeing you soon.“
