After more than 3 years of rumors, stops, and starts, the long-awaited tenant of the new Hemlock Apartments on 87th and Greenwood, California-based grocer Trader Joes, will open this Friday April 11th! Site of a former Safeway store, the Hemlock opened in 2024 when the retail portion had not yet been resolved. The owner and developer of the Hemlock, Washington Holdings, was inundated with requests for TJ’s to be the anchor tenant in initial public meetings about the site, and those requests have come to fruition.
This will be the first Trader Joe’s to open in Seattle in more than 13 years, and the 10,000-square-foot store at 8726 Greenwood Avenue opens for business at 9 a.m. A brief ceremony will be held minutes before the opening. The interior of the store features art and signage by local employees and murals by local artist Stevie Shao.
The store will continue with the company’s Neighborhood Shares Program, donating 100% of products that go unsold and remain fit to consume to nonprofits and community-based organizations.
Trader Joe’s Greenwood will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
