Green Tree Restaurant re-opens today, community asked to help after family tragedy

by | Apr 11, 2025

Green Tree Restaurant, which has been temporarily closed since February with a notice on the door mentioning a family emergency, thankfully re-opened for service today. One of our alert readers decided to dig around the internet to see when they’d reopen, and found a distressing piece from Seattle Met:

Remembering Binh Dang of Green Tree

Binh Dang, one of the owners of Greenwood’s Green Tree Vietnamese Restaurant, passed away on February 9 at the age of 48. Green Tree opened in early 2020 and quickly became a go-to for bright salads and silky bánh cuốn. Coming out of pandemic restrictions, the friendly service and willingness to drop off takeout orders next door at Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery cemented its place as a Greenwood favorite. The restaurant is temporarily closed, without word on when it might reopen.

From that alert reader:

If you’re a fan of the restaurant and staff as well, you’d be familiar with the beloved, gentle family who smiles often while working ridiculous hours, six days a week, to make the most healthy, drool-worthy, and comforting meals on the block. Being closed for a month and a half, located in a bank of buildings notorious for high rents, with loads of food that must be thrown out, must surely be disastrous for the remaining members of the family, along with the devastating grief and pieces they must be trying to pick up in their own lives in the meantime.

We reached out to Green Tree about the possibility of starting a GoFundMe to help bridge the gap, but they declined and instead would like all of us to support them by visiting rather than anything else. They love the neighborhood and are grateful for our support. They are open every day from 11am – 10pm except Tuesday.

So that’s the easiest ask for help ever: please drop by Green Tree and enjoy their amazing food and support this wonderful business and family. Thank you!
