Comment on Seattle’s Re-zoning Proposal by tomorrow

by | Dec 19, 2024

The Greenwood Community Council (GCC) has hosted two meetings on Seattle’s proposed zoning changes. The closing date to make comments to the Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD) is tomorrow, Friday December 20. If you have thoughts or opinions about the zoning plan or how it will affect you or the neighborhood, please take a few minutes to send OPCD your comments by Friday.

Seattle’s proposed zoning change would allow at least four dwellings on any residential property and would up-zone certain areas that now have houses to allow 3-5 story apartment buildings. Read on for information about how to comment on the zoning proposal, where to find more information, and summaries of what was reported out from small group meetings last week at our second GCC zoning meeting on December 12, in case reading those notes will help you in forming your own comments.

There are three ways to comment, and you can use all three if you’d like. Complete instructions for commenting can be found on the One Seattle Plan Zoning Update page, where you can also find the proposed zoning map and other information about the zoning proposal.

GCC also has created a zoning page on our website that provides more specific context and information on how the zoning change would affect Greenwood, including a link to the background presentation made at our November 20 meeting.

  • If you have location-specific comments you can enter them directly into Seattle’s zoning map at the zoning update website linked above. If you need help figuring out how to leave a comment the site has a video to guide you through it. If you have an opinion about how you will be affected by a zoning change, this can be entered on the map.

  • If you have comments on a specific issue, you can fill out a comment form on the zoning website linked above. You can probably send multiple comments this way, but each time you will need to fill out the form again.

  • You can also send your general and specific comments in an email to [email protected]. If you do, consider copying the community council ([email protected]) and the city councilmembers who represent Greenwood ([email protected] and [email protected]).
