by | Aug 9, 2023

This fall, local group Breaking White Silence is offering free, Zoom-based, facilitated study groups for white people about white privilege, white supremacy and the role white people can play in dismantling racism. One group will read, What Does It Mean to Be White?, by Robin DiAngelo, and the other two will read, Nice Racism – How Progressive White People Perpetuate Racial Harm, by Dr. Robin DiAngelo.

What Does It Mean to Be White? [Revised Edition], by Robin DiAngelo is helpful for those wanting a comprehensive understanding of whiteness and its role in racism. Six Tuesday evenings over Zoom, 7 to 8:45 pm, September 12, 19, 26, October 3, 10, 17, 2023. Facilitated by Roger Roffman. Participants limited to 8. Books are available at the Seattle Public Library, or on-loan for the duration of the study group from Breaking White Silence. You can borrow one at [email protected]

Nice Racism – How Progressive White People Perpetuate Racial Harm, by Dr. Robin DiAngelo in Fall, 2023 is helpful for white people who want to better align their anti-racist actions with their values and who want a brave, supportive space in which to examine their behavior patterns as white progressives who might inadvertently perpetuate racial harm. Breaking White Silence Northwest is an all-volunteer project that aims to help white people gain white racial literacy, which we believe to be a keystone step–one of countless steps—in the lifelong process of building personal and collective capacity to take effective action toward racial justice. Our project plays a modest part in a vast network of activists, projects and organizations collectively working toward dismantling white supremacy.
