Your opinion needed! Survey available for affordable Bellwether Housing development in Greenwood

by | Jan 8, 2021

Bellwether Housing was founded in 1980 to create housing for lower wage workers to have access to safe, affordable housing close to their jobs. Bellwether is the Pacific Northwest’s largest nonprofit affordable housing provider.

In 2018, Bellwether paid about $2.4 million for the Boys & Girls Club property in Greenwood at 8635 Fremont Ave. N and plans to create 62 affordable homes. They will serve families with incomes between $38,000 for one person to $65,150 for a family of four. There will be 2 and 3-bedroom homes for larger families.

Construction is expected to commence in mid-2022 and open the building to residents in 2023.

Encore Architects filed the early plan. Three new buildings of affordable family housing that are 3-4 stories will replace the existing playground on the south end of the corner property. Buildings would be separated by courtyards, townhouse-style. Surface parking with 23 stalls is proposed, with access from the alley to the west. Bike rooms are also included. On the north end of the site, at 625 N. 87th St., the community center will remain.

Bellwether would love to get your feedback on this project and is running a community survey. Your input will guide the design of new affordable housing for our neighborhood.

The survey is here in english, español, and 简体中文.
