Words to Gift By: local authors celebrated at Holiday Bookfest this Saturday

by | Dec 4, 2020

Regional authors have teamed up with our Phinneywood bookseller to deliver an entertaining “Stay at Home Edition” of their popular neighborhood event, the Holiday Bookfest. It’s this Saturday, Dec. 5, 3-4 p.m. via Zoom (Event Registration).

The hour-long event, sponsored by Phinney Books, includes four readings, a musical performance, and signed bookplates from featured writers. The nonprofit Bushwick Book Club will be the beneficiary of funds raised from book sales and donations, a giving-back tradition that continues in the event’s 11th year.

Jess Walter will read from his celebrated new book The Cold Millions; Donna Miscolta will read from Living Color: Angie Rubio Stories; Erica Bauermeister will read from House Lessons: Renovating a Life; and Kira Jane Buxton will read from Hollow Kingdom. Author Jennie Shortridge and her musician husband Matt Gani will perform an original song inspired by Eric Liu’s book Become America, part of the Bushwick Book Club’s current performance series.

Featured authors include work from across the spectrum: fiction, poetry, cooking, activism, history, graphic novel, memoir, books for youth, and more. That surely covers everybody on your holiday shopping list.
