GiveBIG is today – support the Phinney Neighborhood Association to reach our goal

by | May 5, 2020

The mission of the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is to build, engage and support our diverse community through programs, services and activities that connect neighbors and foster civic engagement.

The PNA has been publicly closed since March 16, but our work hasn’t stopped. Even though staff is working from home, we’ve been doing all we can to keep vital services going and connecting with those who need it the most. Please help us CRUSH our goal of $25,000 raised by the end of today and pledge your tax-deductible donation here.

Our Hot Meal Program serves 20,000 meals a year to people who need them. In this new and strange time of COVID-19 and mandated physical distancing, the PNA is still providing hundreds of meals each week to our most vulnerable, unsheltered, and other neighbors who need them.

Our Greenwood Senior Center program team has continued to support our community’s 55 and older. As the highest risk age group to COVID, our seniors are experiencing ever more difficulty and isolation. We have started virtual counseling services and support groups for people and family members of those experiencing memory loss, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease; people living alone; adult children with mental illness; and others. We are also offering Zoom exercise classes and programming and just launched a seniors-kids pen pal program.

Our Village team has continued to provide seniors aging at home volunteer services that can be done with distancing, like grocery delivery, pharmacy runs, social calls, dog walking, yard work, and small home exterior projects.

Whittier Kids childcare program is serving families with first responders, frontline medical workers, childcare workers, and grocery workers, and other essential works free of charge. Staff has worked hard on schedules that involve more time outside, fun activities that still allow distancing, and interactive group games that don’t involve touching.

To help both businesses needing traffic and neighbors looking for services, we created a PhinneyWood Business Connection webpage, including who’s offering take-out, online ordering, virtual classes, online gift certificates, and essential services. We have also been keeping the business community up-to-date with frequent communications about funding and support opportunities, and connecting businesses with resources that meet their needs.

We’ve been adapting and flexing for the new circumstances we all find ourselves in to serve the best we can, and we still can’t wait to gather as a community again and welcome you back to our buildings.
