Private Phinney Ridge high school announces scholarships for 2020-21 to relieve financial and educational uncertainty

by | Apr 16, 2020

Leadership Preparatory Academy (LEADPrep), a local private school serving grades 6-12 out of the Phinney Center, announced 10 substantial scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. LEADPrep sees the high school scholarship offering as an opportunity to provide solutions to the learning challenges brought on by COVID-19.

Dr. Maureen O’Shaughnessy, founding director at LEADPrep, shared that “LEADPrep has always been a safe haven for a wide variety of learners. With so many families facing financial uncertainty and students with no educational continuity, we see an opportunity to give back.”

As part of the scholarship opportunity, the school invites these high school students to join the school immediately in their remote learning environment. The school moved to online learning in early March in response to COVID-19. The school sees this invitation as a way to bridge the gap in learning that has occurred for many students in Washington State due to school closures.

“Graduation and the final years of schooling are in jeopardy for these students,” added O’Shaughnessy. “Many local high school students are in need of a reliable source of education; our classes are going strong and have available seats.”

LEADPrep is a progressive middle/high micro-school located in North Seattle and Downtown Kirkland. High school scholarships will be available for both campuses.
