Holiday Business Spotlight: Phinney Ridge Painting

by | Dec 26, 2019

Dear PhinneyWood readers, as 2019 winds down and turns to 2020, we are taking the time to highlight some of our incredible neighborhood businesses that make PhinneyWood what it is. We will return to regular news and events Monday, January 6.

Nik Palladino, owner and founder of Phinney Ridge Painting, thought he’d be doing international work in Malaysia at this point in his life.  However, a “one summer deal” while he was in college at the UW has turned into a career and a successful and highly recognized neighborhood business.

Palladino received his degree in Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs as he was managing and establishing his business, still with the belief that the career was ahead of him was abroad.  However, he found himself contemplating going deep into debt for grad school to get a Master’s degree that would take him away from his beloved neighborhood.

He decided to buckle down and invest himself fully in his business.  He built a system for bidding, communicating, prepping, painting, and follow-up that has established Phinney Ridge Painting as a high-integrity company in an industry that can be characterized as “fly by night” at times.

Palladino, who learned the business from his father (who still owns a painting business in Olympia), is guided by the mantra of maximizing value for his customers and delivering a superior product and experience.   “I know when we paint a house, it will last for 14 years.  We warranty it fully for 7 years, which is 5 to 7 years more than most of our competitors.”

Palladino describes the company mantra in every situation to be “what is the right thing to do?” This extends to his workforce, who he takes good care of and voluntarily loses money in the winter season to keep them employed with less profitable small jobs.
