Dear PhinneyWood readers, as 2019 winds down and turns to 2020, we are taking the time to highlight some of our incredible neighborhood businesses that make PhinneyWood what it is. We will return to regular news and events Monday, January 6.
In an era of picking your own insurance price from a computer or faceless representative, there are still traditional relationship-based people that exist. Most of Jean Wall’s clients come from the Phinney Ridge-Greenwood area, and she is enamored that she gets to dedicate the attention of her business to “a small community in a big city.”
Jean spent 24 years working in retail, with the final years at Macy’s being the most transformational in giving her the leadership skills it takes to run a small business. As with Macy’s, she wanted a business with a great brand, utmost integrity, and one that runs “by the book.” That led her to settle on State Farm, which shares Jean’s vision that remarkable customer service is paramount for success.
When she was searching for a location, Phinney-Greenwood was the clear choice because of the “eclectic identity and the feeling that the neighborhood would grow up around me.” In the 9 years since that decision, the neighborhood has indeed flourished and brought attributes that Jean adores. In addition to the Greenwood Car Show and Seafair Parade, the Greenwood Senior Center has provided a sense of community and opportunity to help residents navigate their Medicare supplement plans.
Jean and her diverse office also actively patronize and partner with local businesses, hosting a monthly “Coffee and Connect” meeting across the street at Monkey Grind Espresso. “We can walk to lunch, walk to yoga, walk to our local hair stylist. We are a community of small businesses that support each other.”
