The City of Seattle has streamlined the application process for Play Streets and Block Parties this summer, to encourage neighbors to get together outside. Some play streets include barbecues and food tables, kids on bikes and scooters, and outdoor games.
Permits go through the Department of Transportation. Applications must be submitted at least 14 days before your event.
From the website you can print a street closure sign and block off your street with garbage and recycling bins or whatever will make it clear that car traffic is forbidden at that time. Play streets and block parties can close one block of a non-arterial street. If you’re not sure if your street is an arterial or not, check out this map.
