Here’s a roundup of various neighborhood news.

FamilyWorks, which runs the Greenwood Food Resource Center, says Greenwood Car Show visitors donated a lot of food and nearly $800 in cash for its food bank services.

A reminder that Goodwill has a donation station at 10022 Holman Rd NW, that is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

Thomas Whittemore, the city’s Community Engagement Coordinator serving North Seattle, is holding office hours this summer at the Ballard Customer Service Center, 5604 22nd Ave. NW, from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesdays, Aug. 2, Aug. 16 and Aug. 30. Stop by if you need help navigating city services or have ideas to share. He’ll also be in Lake City this summer. See the website for more information.

Neighborhood P-Patches are now officially Community Emergency Hubs during an emergency. It’s part of Seattle Office of Emergency Management’s plan to designate central gathering places for neighbors to help each other after a disaster. You can read more about it here.

The Seattle Fire Department’s Senior Cadet Program is accepting applications through July 31.

The Senior Cadet Program is a voluntary program for adults who are interested in a career as a firefighter. This program offers the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to become a firefighter, and to network with others who are pursuing a similar career path. Program participants will gain experience in engine and ladder operations, fire suppression, self-contained breathing apparatus, search and rescue techniques, problem solving, communication, teamwork and physical conditioning.

See SFD’s Fireline blog for more information on requirements, cost, and time commitment.
