Emergency response volunteers reactivating Phinney Hub this Sunday

by | Jun 13, 2017

The emergency response Phinney Hub is reactivating with a special exercise at 1 p.m. Sunday in the upper parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N.

We will open the “Hub Box,” set up a canopy or two, and engage in an objective-setting exercise to chart the course of the Hub organization over the coming months. In an emergency, the procedure at a Hub is to work out together what you can do with the people who are there, given the situation you find yourselves in. We will do that now, looking forward to the growth and strengthening of our volunteer community group. Please join us if you can!
Boy, do we need it!
The Cascadia Rising exercise in 2016 revealed a “grossly inadequate” earthquake response capability in Washington. State authorities are now advising that every household should have a full two weeks of supplies on hand! But of course almost no one does. (See the Seattle Times for a summary, or read the After-Action Report.)
A Hub will not solve all our problems, but working with our neighbors is always a good thing. The better we know each other, the more we can help each other prepare in advance. And if there should be a crisis, we will not be alone!
