Halloween events happening in Greenwood-Phinney Ridge this weekend

In case your child hasn’t mentioned it yet, Halloween is just two days away! Here are a few fun/spooky things happening in our neighborhood.

Halloween on Holman, from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, at Carkeek Plaza and Holman Road Square. Kids in costume can trick-or-treat at businesses on both sides of Holman Road. Those businesses are also providing face painting, chair massages, photos, and a live DJ. Adults can win more than $1,000 in prizes and gift-cards from participating merchants. Participants are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food for the Ballard and Greenwood Food Banks (drop off at QFC).

Hunger Goblin Trick or Treat at businesses along Phinney-Greenwood avenues and 85th Street from 12-3 p.m. Saturday. Pay $2 or bring a non-perishable food donation for the Greenwood Food Bank to get a special Hunger Goblin sticker (not required, but encouraged, for trick or treating). Stickers available now at Phinney Umpqua Bank, 7120 Greenwood Ave. N., or at donation stations during the event. Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N., will give kids in costume a free book. American Dance Institute at 8001 Greenwood Ave. N. transforms its studio with 10 bales of hay, corn stalks, moss laden dead tree branches, five 30-gallon bags of Big Leaf Maple leaves, and hundreds of decorations, including flying bats, huge spiders and ghosts.

Once children enter the studio, they follow a designated foot path that takes them through a grave stones obstacle course, to games of balance and imagination and Halloween themed displays and costumed volunteers. Stationed along the course are live ballet, break, tap dancers and more who stand mannequinlike and come alive as the children pass by. Appropriate music plays in the background.

Tickets are $5 and include a free hot dog from Cycle Dogs, a free ice cream sandwich, and a raffle entry for a private party at The Cookie Counter.

It begins with a procession led by Aztec dancers in the Community Plaza by the upper parking lot.
