More than 500 classic and downright cool cars will take over a mile and a half of Greenwood Avenue, from North 67th to 90th streets, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for the annual Greenwood Car Show, which attracts tens of thousands of spectators.

This is an official Seafair event where you’ll see vintage cars, trucks and motorcycles, plus newer cars like Minis and electric vehicles, classic fire trucks, hydroplanes, plenty of food vendors and a Kids Zone.

Organized by the Greenwood Knights Car Club, registration fees and sponsorships raise money for neighborhood nonprofits and automotive scholarships. Donations have totaled more than $100,000 since 2009.
Lance Lambert, host of The Vintage Vehicle Show, will once again emcee the awards presentation, and will have a booth selling books and giving away photos.

Naked City Brewery is again hosting the Beer Can Derby (and the new Root Beer Can Derby) at noon on Saturday in the Walrus Beer Garden (kids welcome), to benefit the Greenwood Food Bank.

The awesome derby track, designed by two generous Seattle engineers, Jason Herndon and Todd Boedecker, is 40 feet long with four lanes and an electronic timer. Entry fee is 5 non-perishable food items with all donations going directly to the Greenwood Food Bank. The Beer Can Derby is for adults (21+), and vehicle designs must include one beer can. The Root Beer Can Derby is open to all ages, and participants must include one soda can in their car design.

The Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St., is hosting its annual Pancake Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Cost is $5 per person or $15 per family.
Greenwood Avenue will be closed to regular traffic from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cars begin lining up at 6 a.m. Metro Route 5 will be rerouted off Greenwood Avenue from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. Check out Metro’s Service Advisories page for reroute information.
Note: The Phinney Cycle Show that was originally planned by another group to coincide with the car show has been postponed until next year. However, the group will have a table at the car show to generate interest for next year.
