Farmers market, candidates forum, new police station open house, theater, music, pride and an emergency drill in Greenwood-Phinney this weekend

There’s a lot going on in and around Phinney Ridge and Greenwood this weekend. Here are some highlights; check our Events calendar for more.
Film Series: Positive Images of Aging from 1-3 p.m. Friday at the Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St.
The Phinney Farmers Market is open from 3-7 p.m. in the upper parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., with fresh veggies, fruit, bread, ice cream, flowers and lots more.
Jazz First Fridays with New Ronin 4 at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N.
Taproot Theatre continues its run of “Jeaves Intervenes.”
The Phinney Ridge Community Council and Phinney Neighborhood Association are hosting a candidates forum for the new Seattle City Council District 6 from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at the PNA, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., in the Brick Building. Incumbent Councilmember Mike O’Brien and challengers Catherine Weatbrook, Jon Lisbin and Stan Shaufler will answer questions on zoning, land use, development, transportation, environment, civic engagement, public safety, etc. District 6 covers Green Lake, Phinney Ridge, Greenwood, Ballard and Fremont. Open house for the new North Precinct Police Station is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Bitter Lake Community Center Annex at Broadview Thomson Elementary, 13040 Greenwood Ave. N.
PNA Garden Party and Plant Exchange from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Bring plants, pots, gardening books and tools to exchange, or pick up new plants for free. Master Gardeners and Composters will be on hand to answer your questions.
PhinneyWood Hubs will conduct a drill of our neighborhood’s emergency response systems from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at Greenwood Park, at Fremont Avenue North and North 87th Street. Organizers need community members to help test processes and procedures for natural and man-made emergencies. Following the drill will be a barbecue and potluck from 12-2 p.m., with a focus on crime prevention. The three PhinneyWood Hub Locations are at the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N.; Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St.; and Epic Life Church, 10510 Stone Ave. N.
23 neighborhood businesses will celebrate diversity at the third annual PhinneyWood Pride Rainbow Hop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Greenwood Library is hosting a special family story time with drag queen Sparkle Leigh from 10:30-11 a.m. at 8016 Greenwood Ave. N. Check out the Rainbow Hop map for locations of fun activities like face-painting, games and sidewalk chalk drawing, and arts and crafts, including tie-dye socks and making rainbow patterned cat and dog toys.
The OK Chorale and Greenwood Senior Center’s All Present (a song circle for those living with memory loss) will sing a collection of favorite songs from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at the GSC, 525 N. 85th St. Suggested donation is $10, with proceeds benefiting the center’s early stage memory loss programs.

Artist Joshua Boulet will show off his sketches and comics at Herbs House, 716 NW 65th St., from 4-9 p.m. Saturday. (Herbs House is a recreational cannabis retail shop for adults 21+; valid I.D. required.)

  • The Fremont 5K and Briefcase Relay begins at 6 p.m. Friday, so be aware of street closures and extra traffic.
  • The 22nd annual Ballard Criterium will close Shilshole Avenue NW and Ballard Avenue NW from NW Vernon Place to NW Dock Place from 1:30-9 p.m. Saturday.
  • Relay For Life of Seattle, a 24-hour walking event to raise money to fight cancer, is at Lower Woodland Park at Green Lake Saturday and Sunday.
  • And the annual Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure will close streets around Seattle Center on Sunday morning.
