Weekend events: dancing, live music, food club open house, QFC remodeling celebration

Contra Dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the PNA, in the Brick Building.

Taproot Theatre continues its run of the comedy “The Matchmaker,” through Oct. 26.

Story Adventure Time with Miss Erin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Illumination Learning Studio, 7720 Greenwood Ave. N., Suite 102.

The new Real Food Buying Club is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 4818 14th Ave. N. The club uses its collective buying power to save money by purchasing local food in bulk and eliminating the middle man (grocery stores). The club currently focuses on offering organic and natural meats, produce, eggs, milk, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, oils, etc.

Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. presents An Actress vs. Shakespeare — An Arts Crush Event at 7:30 p.m. Friday; legendary bard Jim Page at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and Open Jazz Jam with Kenny Mandell and Don Berman at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Seattle Folklore Society presents Sara Grey: Songs of the Old West at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., in the Brick Building. Cost is $16 general, $14 SFS/PNA members and seniors; kids half price. Reserve seats online or call 206-528-8523.

The QFC on Holman Road is having its grand reopening on Sunday. Portions of the store have been closed for a $3 million remodeling project. Among the changes: relocation of the floral department; new entrance into the produce department; additional check stands, including three Euro express lanes and six self-check robots; new cheese/olive peninsula; replacement of the wine cellar with two upscale wine cases and a tasting area. The ribbon cutting ceremony is at 8 a.m. Sunday. QFC officials also will present donations to community organizations and pass out goodies to customers.

The Norse Home, 5311 Phinney Ave. N., is having its monthly Sunday Brunch Buffet, which is open to the public. Enjoy Scandinavian pancakes dusted with powdered sugar and topped with fruit; breakfast sides such as bacon, eggs, sausage and morning beverages. Brunch is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 adults, $10 seniors and children 12 and under. Children 5 and under eat free.
