Seattle Police hope someone recognizes a man accused of posing as a police officer and sexually assaulting a woman at Aurora Avenue North at North 93rd Street on Friday night.
The man is described as Hispanic, in his mid-30’s to early 40’s, about 5’9″ tall with a stocky build. If you have any information, call the Seattle Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit at 206-684-5575.
Here’s the original report from the SPD Blotter:
A 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger posing as an undercover police officer last night. On June 15th at approximately 11:32 p.m. the female victim was on her way to meet a friend when she was confronted by the male suspect on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of North 93rd Street. The suspect identified himself as a plain clothes police officer working a sting in the area. The suspect asked the victim for her identification. The victim hesitated for a moment and actually started to walk away when the suspect confronted her again displaying a badge. The suspect then pushed the victim into a bushy area where she was sexually assaulted. After the assault the suspect fled in an unknown direction and remains at large.
The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. While there she was interviewed by Sexual Assault Unit detectives who continue to actively investigate.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’9″ tall, 30 to 40 years old, clean cut with short dark curly hair, a stocky build and no accent.
Anyone with information about this incident or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Sexual Assault Unit at (206) 684-5575. Anonymous tips are welcome.
If a non-uniformed individual is identifying himself/herself as a Seattle police officer and attempting to stop or detain you and you have doubts about their authenticity, request a uniformed officer or a supervisor to respond to the scene or simply call 911 yourself and report the circumstances.
