Phinney Farmers Market is from 3-7 p.m. in the upper parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., featuring fresh veggies, produce, ice cream, beer, bread, chocolate, pasta, flowers, pizza and more. French café music from 4-6 p.m. by Pourquois Pas.
Woodland Park Zoo closes early Friday for its 35th annual Jungle Party fundraiser. Admission ends at 3 p.m.; visitors can stay until 4 p.m. The North Meadow and its walking path will be closed to visitors all day, and so will the West parking lot and inner North parking lot.
Seattle Public Theater presents free performances of “The Princess Bride” from Friday through Sunday at the Batthouse Theatre at Green Lake. ( 7 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday. Free, but they’re happy to accept donations to the youth scholarship fund.
Seattle Storyteller’s Guild’s “Story Swap” is at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Café, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. And on Saturday, listen to The Gloria Darlings, a female indie-folk-grass band. Free.
City Fruit is hosting a Canning Basics class from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N.
Learn this traditional preservation technique and open up a whole world of homemade jams, jellies, relishes, salsas, sauces, even pickles! The class will cover equipment, safety, ingredients, basic water-bath canning, and where to find canning recipes and resources. Instructor Nancy Gohring is a Seattle Tilth Master Food Preserver and City Fruit board member.

Seattle Parks and Recreation is again selling low-cost life jackets from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Green Lake’s Evans Pool, 7201 E. Green Lake Dr. N. Cost for sizes infant to youth large is $20, and for teens to adult size XXL, $30. Life jackets sales will happen again on Aug. 20 and Sept. 17.
The Seafair Milk Carton Derby is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Green Lake. Thousands of spectators are expected to line the western shores of the lake and watch homemade contraptions made from milk cartons try to stay afload.
Watch the 3rd place match of the Women’s World Cup on the big screen at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, in Community Hall in the Brick Building on Saturday. France vs Sweden. Doors open at 8 a.m., game starts at 8:30 a.m. Then watch Team USA take on Japan in the World Cup finals on Sunday at the Pig ‘n Whistle Pub, 8412 Greenwood Ave. N. All ages. Doors open at 11 a.m., game starts at 11:45 a.m.
“Beervana,” the Phinney Neighborhood Center’s annual beer taste, is from 4-7 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot. 10 tastes from more than 20 local breweries. Tickets are $25 for PNA members, $30 for non-members.
