The Phinney Ridge Community Council (PRCC) meeting, featuring city presentations on side sewers as well as PRCC board elections, is at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., Room 6.
Many homeowners will be interested in this one, as several representatives from Seattle Public Utilities will talk about the responsibilities of homeowners to replace aging side sewers. A side sewer is the the pipe connecting a home or business’ water and waste to the city sewer system. They can cost generally from $5,000-$15,000 to replace, and it’s best to do it before it backs up into your basement.
On the agenda:
- Maps of the Phinney neighborhood that show the main sewer lines – presented by Frank McDonald, Seattle Public Utilities
- A demonstration on how to look up your sewer card online – by Brad Bryan, Seattle Public Utilities
- Side sewer and Operation Response Center (ORC) information – by Celeste Duncan, Seattle Public Utilities
- Examples of how emergency repairs can be handled. (i.e. what should you do if your sewer is backing up into your basement in the middle of the night) – by Mike Brennan, Seattle Public Utilities
- Questions about “gray” water uses and roof drain disconnection –by Tracy Tackett, Seattle Public Utilities
SPU representatives also will talk about the different kind of contractors and what to ask before hiring someone, and Northwest materials and techniques for installing side sewers.
The PRCC also will be taking nominations for one open board position. Voting will take place at 8 p.m.
