Steven Cole Salon at 8408 Greenwood Ave. N. is moving around the corner to the building currently housing Hair Fashions by Mary Gene at 309 N. 84th St.
The sign has been taken down from the Steven Cole Salon on Greenwood Avenue.
Steven Cordell, former owner of Steven Cole Salon, said he sold his salon about two years ago after buying the Greenwood Academy of Hair, because it was too much work to own both. Last year he sold the Academy to Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy, which then moved it from the corner of 85th and Greenwood to Shoreline.
But, unhappy with the new owner’s business practices at Steven Cole Salon, Cordell is taking his salon’s name and clients one block away. His four stylists are moving to other nearby salons. Three – Desire, Leah and Lorrel – are moving one block north to Frederick’s, at 8524 Greenwood Ave. N.
Cordell, who opened Steven Cole Salon about eight years ago, has already renovated the tiny salon on North 84th Street, which is attached to a house. He says Mary Gene will continue to work there two days a week as part of her own business.

The new one-chair salon already has the Steven Cole Salon sign up, but Cordell is still working with some clients out of the old salon this week.
“I’ve got about 200 clients. It’s a beautiful little spot,” Cordell said of the new space. “It’s kind of sad, but I’m not going anywhere. It’s just going to be nice to have my own clients, no employees, and no stress.”
The new Steven Cole Salon will keep the current phone number of 206-783-8900 (although it might be down for a short time while he transitions to a new phone provider). Clients can also call Cordell on his cell phone: 206-859-0585. Cordell says he will offer new clients 50 percent off their first haircut.
Clients can directly contact the other four stylists from the old Steven Cole Salon for appointments at their new salons:
