Cooper the photography cat gets his own gallery show

by | Feb 6, 2009

As part of the new monthly Greenwood-Phinney art walk next Friday, Cooper the photography cat will premiere his own gallery show from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 13 at Urban Light Studios at the Greenwood Collective, 8537 Greenwood Ave. N.
You may remember that Cooper roams the neighborhood once a week wearing a small camera that automatically snaps pictures every two minutes. His owners have a blog of his “art” and all his press attention. Here are two photos from the upcoming exhibit:

Proceeds from the exhibit will benefit PAWS Cat City. The exhibit is open through March 10. Here’s what gallery owner Kevin Law says about his gallery’s first cat artist:

At first I was intrigued by the concept of the portable cat camera. But as I began to view all of his photos, I was blown away by their beauty and uniqueness. I literally forgot I was looking at feline photography.
Ultimately people will see images from an entertaining cat’s eye view of the world. While some of Cooper’s photos fall into the cat stereotype, lurking in the bushes, staring at his owners’ legs, still others are more classically beautiful or abstract with no notion that they were created by something other than a human.
