Water main break near 85th and Greenwood

by | Dec 20, 2008

There was a water main break near 85th and Greenwood last night, so watch out for ice in the area. Thanks, Steve, for letting us know about it. We’ll bundle up and try to check it out soon, but in the meantime, anybody know more about it?

Update: It got cleaned up pretty well with very little ice left over on Greenwood. The break happened in front of Emma Jean’s Consignments and Antiques, 8554 1/2 Greenwood Ave N.

Crews turned off water to Emma Jean’s, Crosswalk Tavern and the Mexican store (I believe it’s Tiendita Latina) at about 9:30 p.m. so they could fix the leak.

No water got into the buildings, owner Thomas Grant said, mainly because Greenwood is sinking to west of their buildings. “Luckily because of the sinkage in Greenwood, the water kept going out into the street,” Grant said. While the subsidence helped in this case, he’s concerned about the issue, noticing evidence of sinkage on the sidewalk outside his business over the past four years he’s been there.
