Keep an eye out for flag-waving pedestrians

by | Jul 15, 2008

It’s not a display of patriotism we’re talking about, it’s the “yoo-hoo, don’t hit me” kind of display using neon-colored pennants at selected crosswalks. There’s a set at 58th and Phinney across from Woodland Park Zoo:

Another set recently went in on 8th Avenue NW at about 75th.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is testing them out at 17 crosswalks to see if they’ll improve pedestrian safety. If it’s determined they work, they’ll be added to the city’s Pedestrian Master Plan.

If you have questions about the program, or just want to report that the flags have disappeared, as has happened at another crosswalk, you can contact SDOT at (206) 684-7583, or walkandbike@seattle.gov.
