Six-car accident at Greenwood & 85th

by | Nov 14, 2008

I happened on the scene of this six-car accident in the southbound lanes of Greenwood Avenue between 85th and 86th streets at 12:30 this afternoon. Engines 21 and 35 were there, as was Medic 16, two ambulances from American Medical Response, and a number of police cars blocking traffic.
A man who appeared to be responsive was loaded onto a backboard. A child’s carseat is seen on top of the car in the background, but we don’t know if the child was in the car at the time.

The last two cars in the pile-up received the worst damage.

Firefighters and a medic huddled around a small dog sitting on a pillow. The dog was taken from one of the cars, but I don’t know if he was actually transported to a vet hospital.

Two Metro buses were directly behind the accident and were stuck for quite a while, until police allowed them to pass. All other southbound traffic was blocked, however, and was still blocked at 1 p.m., although several tow trucks had just arrived, so the scene is starting to clear.
