Great first night for annual PhinneyWood Artwalk — The BIG One — with day two tomorrow

May 12th, 2017 by Doree

The weather held for the first night of the annual PhinneyWood Artwalk — The BIG One — as hundreds of people strolled up and down Phinney and Greenwood avenues to see art and hear music at more than 70 galleries and other businesses.

The Artwalk’s second day is from 12-5 p.m. Saturday. Check the Artwalk website because a few venues were only open on Friday or close early on Saturday.

The first annual Seattle Recycled Arts Festival brought an amazing array of art at numerous locations throughout the Artwalk, including this robot and dog at the Greenwood Library.

‘The Big One’ artwalk coming up this Friday and Saturday with 100+ artists at 70 Phinney-Greenwood galleries and businesses

May 4th, 2015 by Doree

Our neighborhood’s huge annual artwalk is coming up this Friday and Saturday. The 20th annual PhinneyWood Artwalk – The Big One is officially from 6-9 p.m. Friday and 12-5 p.m. Saturday, but many galleries and other businesses will host artists and parties later on Friday night.

More than 100 artists working in various mediums will be at 70 businesses from North 65th to North 87 streets throughout Phinney Ridge and Greenwood, but mostly along Phinney and Greenwood avenues. Some businesses will have special musical performances inside or outside on the sidewalk. You’ll also likely see street performers, children’s activities and chalk art. Check out the artwalk website for a map and list of all participating businesses and artists. You can also get a printed map at participating sites this week.

Several restaurants and pubs will offer artwalk specials (check the website for details).

Historically the Friday night event packs the sidewalks with many hundreds of people, so if you’re driving through the neighborhood, please be extra cautious of pedestrians.

Here are just a few highlights:

American Dance Institute at 8001 Greenwood Ave. will have special dance performances from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Greenwood Library, 8016 Greenwood Ave. N., will feature artists Katarina Schmidt and Thendara Kida-Gee (below), along with displays of “Creative Art for Seniors” classes by Betsy Dahlstrom.

Illumination Learning Studio, 7720 Greenwood Ave. N., will have a group show featuring art created by ILS students ages 5-13 (below), plus art made by the teachers.

Two Birds Tattoo, 7408 Greenwood Ave. N., will host Cute for a Cause, which includes art and goods and gift certificates on silent auction with all proceeds going to Old Dog Haven and The Seattle Animal Shelter. Donations of pet supplies or pet food welcomed; and there will be a face painter and a puppy kissing booth.

All Art Up PhinneyWood Art Walks, including The BIG One in May and smaller ones during the other 11 months, are organized by the all-volunteer Greenwood Arts Council, in collaboration with the Phinney Neighborhood Association.
