A new year brings a new opportunity to try something joyful, social, and completely different—an Absolute Beginner’s Tango Class is coming to the Phinney Center starting January 6th, 2026. Whether you’ve always dreamed of learning Argentine tango or you’re simply looking for a fun way to get moving during the winter months, this welcoming, no-pressure class is designed for anyone who wants to give tango a try.

The class is taught by Tony and Ilana, well-loved instructors known for their warm teaching style and ability to help brand-new dancers feel comfortable from the very first step. No partner is needed, as participants rotate partners throughout the class. There’s no dance experience required, either—“two left feet” are genuinely welcome. It’s also a great option for anyone who has taken tango before and wants a refresher.

Classes meet Tuesday evenings from January 6th through February 24th in Room #5 of the blue building at the PNA Phinney Center, located at 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Sessions run from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The full eight-week series costs $110, with $20 drop-in options available for those who want to try it out before committing.

This absolute beginner class focuses on learning authentic Argentine tango in a supportive, easygoing environment. Along the way, you’ll build confidence, gain rhythm and connection, and meet new people from around the neighborhood.
