Tickets now available for two holiday shows at the Taproot Theatre

PhinneyWood’s own Taproot Theatre is kicking off the holiday season with two festive shows designed to bring warmth, nostalgia, and a bit of mystery to Greenwood. The theatre’s stages will host a returning family favorite and a spirited literary mashup, offering options for audiences of all ages throughout November and December.

On the Jewell Mainstage, A Sherlock Carol opens November 26. Written by Mark Shanahan and directed by Associate Artistic Director Bretteney Beverly, the play blends Sherlock Holmes’ sharp deductive world with the redemptive spirit of A Christmas Carol. Beverly said the show “feels like a true holiday party, full of classic characters, cozy storytelling, and a surprising amount of heart.” She added that the production is a welcome return to a Dickens–Holmes crossover for the company, following a similar adaptation in 2012.

The story follows a retired Holmes, unsettled by visions and drawn into a new case involving a missing gem and a spectral visitor. With help from Ebenezer Scrooge and other familiar figures, Holmes unravels a mystery that ties Victorian intrigue to timeless themes of generosity and renewal. The production runs through December 27 at the Jewell Mainstage Theatre (204 N 85th St).

A few doors down in the Isaac Studio Theatre, A Charlie Brown Christmas returns for its seventh year beginning December 4. The musical adaptation of the animated classic runs through December 27 and remains one of Taproot’s most popular holiday offerings.

Director Melanie Godsey said the show endures because it captures “the simple, sincere spirit people crave this time of year,” adding that the Peanuts gang “invites families to slow down, laugh together, and reconnect with the joy of the season.” With its short runtime, affordable tickets, and sensory-friendly performance options, the production is designed to welcome even the youngest theatergoers.

Together, these two productions anchor Taproot Theatre’s 2025 holiday lineup — a blend of mystery, nostalgia, and heartfelt storytelling that aims to bring the community together during the holiday season.
