This fall, the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) invites neighbors and visitors to gather for its annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Phinney Center in Seattle. This event is free and open to all.
Rooted in the Mexican tradition of honoring loved ones who have passed, this vibrant community event blends remembrance with festivity—featuring live music, dance, art, food, and family-friendly activities. This Mexican holiday honors the deceased with a cultural extravaganza filled with food, crafts, and festivities, and is a time to come together to celebrate the lives of our loved ones and rejoice in the memories shared with family and friends.
At the heart of the event stands a Community Ofrenda altar designed by poet Raul Sanchez, offering a space where visitors can place photos or tokens in memory of those they wish to honor. The altar will remain open for community offerings October 21 through November 3 in the Phinney Center’s Blue Building lobby.
Throughout the afternoon, guests will enjoy a rich lineup of performances and activities:
Event Highlights
- 1:00 PM: Student performance by Jump on Languages
- 1:30 PM: Baile Folklore Colibrí
- 2:00 PM: Dedication of the altar by Raul Sanchez
- 2:30 PM: Poetry open mic & performance by Grupo Folklórico Citlali
- 3:15 PM: Traditional ceremony and neighborhood procession with CeÁtl Tonalli
Visitors can enjoy delicious offerings from Tacos Alebrijes (with indoor seating), along with Mexican hot chocolate and pan de muerto from Pasteleria y Panaderia La Ideal.
Free craft stations will feature paper flowers, skull masks, and floral headpieces, while local tattoo artist Justin Pino will offer temporary flash tattoos. A new artist marketplace will showcase handmade art, jewelry, and traditional crafts.
Community organizations, including Casa Latina, will also be present to share their work and build connections across neighborhoods.
