by | Apr 21, 2025

Onigiri (or Omusubi) is Japanese soul food. From simple rice balls for school lunches or a picnic to various versions that are sold at convenience stores, onigiri holds a special place in everyone’s heart. In recent years, this ultimate Japanese comfort food has been becoming very popular worldwide, and the most popular food sold through catering popup (and 2023 Bite of PhinneyWood alumnus) Kozmo Kitchen.

Kanako Koizumi, chef and owner of Kozmo Kitchen, has taught Japanese home-cooking at PCC and other locations over 15 years, providing private and classroom classes and event cooking classes. She also contributes recipes at various publications including North American Post. Want to learn to make onigiri like a pro just in time for a spring picnic? You can now sign up for a class in May, June or July. The cost of the class is $70, with a special deal for parent & kid (age 8 and older) for $90.
