Did You Know There’s a Co-Working Space in the Phinney Center’s historic Brick Building? Tucked into the brick building is a hidden spot for people looking to work outside the home: The Phinney Community Workspace. Last December, the space was about to close for good when a member stepped in to take over the lease and keep it going. Unlike other co-working spaces, the Phinney Community Workspace is nestled among classrooms and offices that are engaged with creative and educational activities throughout the day and evening. With just five desks, a small kitchen, and a comfy couch, the Phinney Community Workspace aims to provide a shared workspace in the heart of Phinney Ridge, with all that the PNA and Phinney Ridge have to offer just outside the door.
Dedicated desks are now available in the cozy, quiet co-working space at the Phinney Neighborhood Center. If interested, please contact Maggie for information at [email protected].
The space has been used for co-working for over 12 years, and was established as Monkey Barrel Media by a group of independent businesspeople. An editor, a writer, a software coder, and a photographer had been getting together for co-working sessions at a coffee shop, but realized that if they took the amount they were spending on coffee and snacks and pooled it, we might have enough money to rent a shared office. Over the years, the configuration has changed, but it’s always been some combination of creative people who worked remotely but didn’t want work alone.
