Latitude Theatre’s Miss Holmes is on the case of food insecurity, and is proud to announce that they will be hosting a very special Food Drive performance of their summer production, Miss Holmes! On Monday August 5th at 7:30pm, tickets to the show are Pay-With-Your-Can!
A riff on the more traditional Pay-What-You-Can performances at other theatres that provide economic accessibility to theatrical productions, those who attend Miss Holmes on the Pay-With-Your-Can night receive a discounted rate or even a free ticket, while helping restock the shelves at one of our neighborhood food banks.
Though a newer company in the Seattle theatre scene, Latitude Theatre has already had success with their Pay-With-Your-Can performances. Their first two productions (Monstrous Regiment and Victorian Christmas Cards) raised over 150 pounds of food. With Miss Holmes, they look forward to much more.
“It’s been great to see how Seattle audiences have responded to Pay-With-Your-Can nights” explains Latitude Theatre Artistic Director Christopher Kidder-Mostrom. “We enjoy providing an affordable opportunity to those who might otherwise not be able to attend, but we also want everything we do to make our community better and stronger. Clearly our audience is willing to help make that happen.”
Miss Holmes opens on Saturday August 3 and runs through August 25, so Pay-With-Your-Can audience members will be among the first to see the play which Director Jane Ryan states “is as relevant as today’s headlines. Holmes and Watson will not be underestimated as they do what they do best — fight injustice!”
How it Works
On the day of the show, patrons bring a non-perishable food item to the theater with them. Or, they can bring more than one (3 or more is suggested). The food that is brought along will be collected at the box office (in the lobby of the Center Theatre) for donation to Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church Food Bank.
- Bring one (1) canned food item, you get $10 off your ticket at the door.
- Bring three (3) canned food items, your ticket for the night is FREE
- Discounted tickets are first-come-first-served, at the door only starting at 6:30pm.
- Tickets purchased in-advance for August 5th are regular price ($35)
- This deal only works on the Monday August 5th show – so don’t miss out!
All non-perishable food items are welcome, but shelf-stable protein (tuna, canned salmon, peanut and other nut butters, even spam) are usually needed. All the standard cans like soup, veggies, fruits, sauces, and beans get put to use, too. Pet food is also accepted and is put to quick use.
