It’s finally here, PhinneyWood: Trader Joes coming to the neighborhood

by | Jun 6, 2024

After more than 3 years of rumors, stops, and starts, the long-awaited tenant of the new Hemlock Apartments on 87th and Greenwood has been announced: beloved California-based grocer Trader Joes. Site of a former Safeway store, the Hemlock opened earlier this year when the retail portion had not yet been resolved. According to electrical and mechanical permits filed yesterday, it will be Trader Joes that will be filling the 13,486 square foot space.

The owner and developer of the Hemlock, Washington Holdings, was inundated with requests for TJ’s to be the anchor tenant in initial public meetings about the site, and those requests have come to fruition. No details have emerged about timeline and other nuances, but in the meantime PhinneyWood can anticipate shopping at a local Trader Joes in 2025.
