Gumshoe is slang for “detective,” and it’s also the name of a walk that has challenged participants since 2006 to solve 30 clues across 5 kilometers in Seattle’s Phinney Ridge/Greenwood neighborhood. Think of it as your chance to be Sherlock Holmes for a time—without the hat or the pipe (unless you really want to).
Entry forms are now available at www.dothegumshoe.org for $25 each, with a special early bird discount of 20% off during the month of June. That’s right, you can save some dough and put your detective skills to good use. After purchasing a form, participants will receive an email receipt that can be redeemed alongside a photo ID for the actual form at Greenwood Hardware starting August 2.
The 2024 event runs from August 2-18, giving participants 17 days, including three weekends, to complete the walk. Plenty of time to channel your inner sleuth and maybe even take a break for some donuts (we won’t judge). Those who return their completed forms by August 18 will have a chance to win one of many $100 gift cards to local businesses. This year’s start/stop point will be Halcyon Brewing Co.—because every great mystery deserves a great brew at the end. All net profits will be donated to the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church Food Bank.
So dust off your magnifying glass and get ready to do the Gumshoe!
