Veterans and PTSD the focus of this month’s Contexpo event

Get ready for a weekend full of free self-care and healing events at the Phinney Neighborhood Center. Mirror Stage’s new Contexpo series of multimodal arts experiences allows participants to explore themes relevant to the community. This month, the Contexpo events are centered around two themes: Veterans and PTSD. Events include an art show, open mic, yoga & mindfulness workshop, and a writing for self-care workshop. The events are presented by Mirror Stage in partnership with the Phinney Neighborhood Center. All events are free and open to the public. Events in the Phinney Center Blue Building include:

  • An Open Mic that will also be live-streamed on Mirror Stage’s YouTube channel. Storytellers and spoken word artists are invited to present pieces relating to veterans or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The Open Mic will be held on Friday, Aug 12 at 7:30pm.
  • Satya Wellness Collective is also set to teach a yoga & mindfulness workshop. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Aug 13 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Please bring a yoga mat. You may also bring an extra mat to donate to the collective.
  • Writing for self-care workshop, for the community explore their own stories. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Aug 13 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.

Mirror Stage is a nonprofit arts organization that uses the power of storytelling to challenge assumptions, bias, and prejudice, increasing equity and inclusion while encouraging more thoughtful reflection on today’s issues. With the goal of increasing empathy and social justice, Mirror Stage connects people more deeply to perspectives and experiences other than their own while amplifying historically excluded stories, voices, and faces- bringing us to a place of common understanding. Mirror Stage is theatre that gets people talking, as well as thinking.
