The Featured Artist Project allows Greenwood Pencil Box to host work from local artists for a 6 week period, including an evening showcase for each artist to present additional work and connect with the community during the art walk of the second month of their feature.

The Pencil Box is excited to present Mariem Shalaby as the featured artist for the May-June rotation. Mariem’s showcase will be hosted on Friday, June 10th from 5pm to 8pm, at Greenwood Pencil Box at 8414 Greenwood Ave N.

“Mariem is a self-taught painter, cartoonist, and illustrator. Her work is inspired by her background as an immigrant, and homeland Egypt, specifically the city of her family’s origin, Alexandria. There is a strong cubism influence in the majority of her paintings, yet she is currently pairing more surrealist elements in her works to comment on histories of colonialism, and issues of immigration, while paying homage to the beauty of the Mediterranean.”

Beer and wine will be available to adults 21+ during your visit, while supplies last. This event is all ages, but the Pencil Box asks that you keep in mind that art is about expression and may contain adult or controversial themes. Masks will be optional.
